About us

The INTERNATIONAL SHAKESPEARE CENTRE has been established by the members of the English Department and the Faculty of Letters, History and Theology at the West University of Timişoara, Romania.

The Centre’s mission is to bring together scholars and students from a wide range of research fields, united by a keen interest in Shakespearean works, with a view to discussing, analyzing, reviewing and putting forward new ideas that would contribute to the presentation, reception and understanding of Shakespeare in a contemporary globalized world as well as in Central and South-Eastern Europe.

The Centre includes honorary members from prestigious universities across Europe: Ton Hoenselaars (Utrecht University), Krystyna Kujawinska-Courtney (University of Łódź), Martin Procházka (University of Prague), Győrgy Szőnyi (University of Szeged), and Rowland Wymer (University of Cambridge).

The conferences and panels organized by the Centre will focus on the revival of the Shakespearean works in the twenty-first century from the viewpoints of various research fields.
